Today, I decided to review a book that demystifies your unconscious or subconscious mind. When you read the book, many discoveries will shock you. For example, the origin of your mind is unconscious. Racism is deeply ingrained in some people. Also people elect politicians on their looks.
Guess I'll never be Prime Minister of Canada and without a doubt President of the United States of America. So no selfies for me ;-)!
John Bargh, the social cognitive nutty psychologist, Ph.D., was raised in Champaign, Illinois.
Do you think he was drinking champagne when he wrote his new book because of these homonyms or was he in a state of unconscious trance ;-)? Read on and find out...
Seriously, we've come a long way since Dr. Joseph Murphy's intuitive and, religious book, The Power Of Your Subconscious Mind.
Certainly, he must be rolling in his grave after reading John Bargh's scientific book, Before You Know It on the unconscious mind, and you'll definitely have the power to use John's insight on how to harness your creativity, rationale, and relationships.
Now as you read John Bargh's, Ph.D., book Before You Know It: The Unconscious Reasons We Do What We Do, you'll discover why your name may determine your profession like John, the apostle, and Bargh, a lawyer who defends his research with scientific experiments on real live people ;-). Sorry, John, these were all unconscious thoughts primed by your amazing book ;-)! He explains why on page 138.
Most important, he challenges with his conscious and subconscious mind some very interesting questions...
Are your unconscious thoughts a product of our evolution as humans (this one is a big one, p. 159)?
What came first the egg or the chicken, the conscious or unconscious mind? Move over Kentucky Fried Chicken ;-)!
Should you always follow your intuition and is it always right?
Is Malcolm Gladwell wrong in his book, Blink: The Power Of Thinking Without Thinking? And does your mind always draw a blank when you read the subtitle like me? Don't think about thinking or a white bear, read page 206!
Does subliminal advertising really work, why and why not, read page 220-221? Remember the faked news, Drink Coke and Eat Popcorn!, in the book, Subliminal Seduction by Wilson Bryan Key.
** I'll be blunt: Buy this book or else pay the consequences of your unconscious thoughts. **
Rule number #1: Think first consciously then unconsciously, that's one up.
How do you know if you love someone?
How many seconds does it take to read a facial expression? 10 minutes, 30 seconds or 6 seconds.
You'll find the answer on page 57.
When you think, do you have time to reflect consciously about the pluses or minuses of a gut reaction or does your automatic subconscious mind take over?
Warning: Rule number #4: "for when you can trust your gut: Be careful what you wish for." Sounds like I have to rub Aladdin's lamp or the Alligator's belly (you must read the book to find out)! Ok, I'll give you a hint, think Mailer, Kekulé, Dylan (Bob, the singer), and Archimedes. But no John will not be streaking down Broadway and Seventh Avenue (this is an inside the book joke worth reading)... I think.
By the way, if you click the Buy now with 1-Click button on the amazon.com web page, then you'll be able to read the book Before You Know It: The Unconscious Reasons We Do What We Do. Just scroll your mouse over the Buy now with 1-Click button and click. It's that easy.
To activate your motor cortex, talk to yourself out loud in doing it and you`ll love it. Just like Nike says on a Michael Jordan poster, Just do It. Again you must read the story of what role Michael Jordan's unconscious mind played in his success. (read chapter 9 to understand what I am doing).
Finally, I barely touched on John's love for Led Zeppelin and what role music played in his life and yours. Unbelievable when you think about it!
Thank you, John, for this lovely and thoughtful book.
