As a teacher, I lived some of the most intense experiences of my life. These are the kind of breaking news that never make the headlines.

I remember as if it was yesterday.

I was teaching a class and all the students were sitting on the floor in a semi-circle except for one child.

He clung to my left leg with both of his arms and held on real tight. I started to move sideways and he hung on to my leg as if his life depended on it.

To my dismay, I discovered from a friend teacher that his parents had just divorced and that he missed his dad so dearly.

He gripped on to me like glue. I couldn`t believe what was happening. I`d become his dad for the day.

For nearly half-an-hour, he adhered to my leg and I never let him go. I felt his sadness and disarray as if he was a cub lost in a forest without his mom and dad.

That was 42 years ago. Or as Adelle would sing A Million Years Ago.

Imagine and I can still feel his arms on my leg. I am happy today that I let him feel security, love and respect.
